Orang Utan Island is increasingly playing an important role in building local conservation capacity by exposing both local and foreign students to various aspects of primatology such as primate behavior and ecology, captive care and veterinary medicine, and, conservation biology.
Veterinary Workshop Programmes
Veterinary students undergo a training programme that involves clinical diagnosis and treatment, where they receive training in veterinary medicine, in the management of the ICU, in the special management of orangutans, and, in pediatric medicine.
They are also taught to manage and operate equipment such as the ultrasound machine, the biochemistry machine and the hematology machine.
In addition, the students are also trained to analyse and interpret the readings of the tests carried out.
